A fire started by arsonists has ripped through an Ormesby farm, killing several lambs and ewes.
Over twenty ewes sustained injuries in the blaze at Hirst Farms in Ormesby in March, and suffered severe injuries. Almost thirty of them had to be put down, and farmer Richard Hurst had to hand-rear and bottle feed their lambs, about five of whom did not manage to make it through the Ormesby farm fire.
The cost of the fire, which is being treated as arson by the police, is estimated to be about £1m, and the chances of catching the thieves is thought to be slim. Nonetheless, officers would like to speak with a couple who were in the area after the Ormesby farm fire, driving a dark series one Freelander, who may be able to provide crucial information relating to what happened. Anyone with details or further information is asked to contact Det Con Kevin Maskell on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
