Following resistance from local residents, plans for a 60 bed care home on the former site of the Pontins Holiday Park have been withdrawn.
Neighbours had voiced their concerns about demands on local facilities, loss of holiday accommodation and impact on local facilities and infrastructure. In addition, there was concern that plans for up to 191 houses to be built on the site would far outstrip demand and lower house prices throughout the town.
Following the withdrawal of the plans, hopes are high that the site can be used to stimulate local tourism, and it is hoped that a buyer can be found soon.
The Pontins site was a huge draw for the area, but following the decline in domestic holidays was forced to close in 2008. With more and more people returning to the Great British Seaside Holiday, the site may now offer a great opportunity to the company that decides to invest.
